Thai Raptor Group and Thailand Raptor Research Fund, Kasetsart University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine have organized two feeding stations for near-threatened Himalayan Vultures in 2 sites located in Phuket province,
southern Thailand (for North-south vulture flyway with Klongsaeng Wildlife Research Station), and Pakpli, Nakhon Nayok province, eastern Thailand (for Indochina vulture flyway with Pakpli Raptor Conservation Club
and Bird-Home photogrphay group). The species and Cinereous vulture have been found emaciated in Thailand's winter months due to lack of animal carcasses as their food source in the wild, and a rehabilitation for release
project by Kasetsart University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Raptor Rehabilitation Unit (KURU) and Department of National Parks, Wildlfie and Plant Conservation has rehabilitated and released 20+ vultures of the two species
since 2007 (Chen Liang, 2017, Pimphaya Charoensiripun, 2019).
The feeding stations, so-called "vulture restaurant" are to provide season-long and safe food source for wintering Himalayan Vultures.
The stations have sustained 5 and 7 vultures from January to mid March, respectively as follow;
1. Phuket site sustained 5 Himalayan vultures from 3 January to 14 February 2019. A flock of seven of Himalayan Vultures was first for the season seen at the site on 27 December 2019 (Rat Puanrak).
2. Pakpli site sustained 7 Himalayan vultures from 3 February to 8 March 2019. One juvenile Himalayan vulture was first seen at this site on 22 Jaunary 2019 (C. Kasorndorkbua & Sitthichai Imjitr).
