This species has been extinct in the wild in Thailand. There have been no records with provenance for decades, until this juvenile bird was found in Phetchaburi. It is likely that the vulture might have been a stray (during 2011 Autumn Big Flooding in Thailand and Cambodia) from Cambodia, where its population still thrives with "vulture restaurant" feeding stations , organized by Wildlife Conservation Society and Sam Veasna Center..
