Feeding station for wintering Himalayan Vultures /Gyps himalayensis/ in Phuket, southern Thailand

Since 9 Dcember 2019, c. 35 vultures, mostly juvenile present at the site on a hill in the southern part of the island.
A maximum of 8 vultures (all juvenile) have been recorded to feed on diclofenac-free cattle and swine carcasses. The carcasses have been given on every other day basis.
The site also has large tall trees suitable for the vultures to night roosting. The feeding station has been organized for 2 consecutive years. Long-term monitoring has been
done by camera trap and volunteers observing in a blind.

This Vulture Survival Thailand project is the cooperation of Kasetsart University Raptor Research and Conservation Medicine, Thai Raptor Group, Vulture Rescue Phuket group, and Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (Klongsaeng wildlife research station and Khao Phra Thaew wildlife non-hunting area)

The project is financially supported by public donations through Raptor Research for Conservation Fund, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kasetsart University.
